Great job -- and I loved the captions. smile

I wouldn't have had any idea there was a memory lapse if you didn't mention it -- and to tell the truth, nothing caught my ear even with your talking about it and even with the help of the captions.

I agree about the dynamic range. Also I like it better with a mellower tone, but that's subjective.....

It's definitely NOT a train wreck. You didn't do too badly here. I did notice the memory slips (whether you realize it, or not there's one in the "A" section also), but then I've been playing the Goldbergs for 25 years. You didn't make things easy on yourself by choosing one of the best known pieces ever written, so don't be too hard on yourself. You have a good handle on things and with some patience and a LOT of LISTENING to yourself, you'll eventually feel completely in control of the introduction to the greatest set of variations ever penned.

Thank you so much. Wow, 25 years! It's true, it is one of the best known pieces ever written.

Since the recital, I've given the piece a bit of a rest. I plan to return to it soon to bring some new learnings and ideas to it and to record it in the Hall w/proper camera angle and dedicated microphones.

Where did I have a memory slip in the A section - was it at the end of the cadence on the first repeat? Please enlighten me! smile

And again, thank you.

Thank you. I will go back and listen to the hi rez audio file and the dynamics. No sure If I'm ambitious enough today to compare the waves between the files though;)

Enjoy what's left of the weekend:)

As I work on the Chopin Concerto, I'm still amazed at how much more freedom Bach provides in terms of interpretive choices - ornaments, articulation, tempo, left hand voicing, etc.

It's ironic, so many people hear you say Bach and they think mathematical like precision when that is so far from the truth. I wish I would have had more maturity when I was a teenager (I started piano late) to fully understand the importance, freedom and beauty of Bach. I too was a blinded by this common stereotype. Well, I guarantee my 7yr old son won't be:)
